What We Do at Kabarole District Farmers Association (KDFA)

Kabarole District Farmers Association (KDFA) implements practical, community led programmes that improve agricultural productivity, increase incomes and strengthen the resilience of smallholder farmers and rural youth.

Our programmes combine training, financial inclusion, agribusiness development and climate smart solutions. They are designed to be scalable, inclusive and aligned with national development priorities and donor objectives.

KDFA promotes sustainable agricultural practices that increase productivity while protecting the environment.

Key activities include:

  • Farmer training in improved crop, livestock, dairy, fisheries, and apiary production

  • Establishment of technology demonstration sites

  • Promotion of climate smart and environmentally friendly farming practices

  • Support to research, innovation and adoption of improved technologies

This programme helps farmers adapt to climate change, improve yields, and manage natural resources responsibly.

KDFA supports farmers to move from subsistence farming to profitable agribusiness.

Key activities include:

  • Practical agribusiness training and enterprise development

  • Collective marketing and farmer group strengthening

  • Support for value addition, agro-processing, and storage facilities

  • Market information services through e-agriculture tools

The programme increases farmers’ incomes by improving access to markets and strengthening value chains.

KDFA has a strong track record in promoting financial literacy and access to finance.

Key activities include:

  • Formation and strengthening of Village Savings and Loan Associations (VSLAs)

  • Financial literacy and savings culture training

  • Business skills and entrepreneurship development

  • Linkages between mature VSLA groups and formal financial institutions

Through VSLA programming, farmers and youth access capital, manage risk, and invest in productive activities.

KDFA places youth at the centre of rural transformation.

Key activities include:

  • Mentoring and coaching youth farmers

  • Skills development in agricultural value chains

  • Employability, entrepreneurship, and business management training

  • Promotion of farming as a viable business and source of green jobs

This programme addresses youth unemployment and supports inclusive economic growth.

KDFA works with research institutions and government agencies to strengthen agricultural knowledge systems.

  • Collaboration with research institutions for innovation testing and dissemination

  • Farmer-led research and learning initiatives

  • Promotion of safe, inclusive, and healthy rural communities

  • Operates in 27 sub counties of Kabarole and Bunyangabu Districts

  • Serves 1,500+ organised farmers and youth groups

  • Strong focus on women, youth and vulnerable rural households
