The Kabarole District Farmers Association (KDFA) is a membership-based farmers’ organisation in Uganda that supports rural farmers to improve agricultural production, income, and livelihoods.
KDFA was founded in 1992 and officially registered in 1998 as a company limited by guarantee. The organisation is affiliated with the Uganda National Farmers Federation (UNFFE), the national umbrella body representing more than 50 district-based agricultural organisations across Uganda.
KDFA works closely with smallholder farmers, providing training, technical support, and access to markets to strengthen the agricultural sector in Kabarole District and the wider Rwenzori region.
Through its programmes, KDFA promotes modern farming methods, agribusiness development, financial inclusion, and environmental conservation.

Our Background
Kabarole District Farmers Association (KDFA) was founded in 1992 and formally registered in 1998 as a company limited by guarantee. The organisation was established to unite farmers and improve their economic and social wellbeing through collective action and practical support.
KDFA is affiliated to the Uganda National Farmers Federation (UNFFE), the national umbrella body representing district farmers’ organisations across Uganda. This affiliation strengthens farmers’ representation and advocacy at national level.
Over the years, KDFA has implemented agricultural, agribusiness, financial inclusion, environmental, and community development programmes that respond directly to farmers’ needs.

Developing and promoting strong farmer networks

- Lobby and advocate for appropriate sustainable agricultural policies.
- Establish collaborative linkage with strategic partners and influence issues at national and the
international level. - To increase the capacity of vulnerable communities to articulate and demand their rights and
entitlements. - Positively contribute to the research and innovations on sustainable agriculture across the
country. - Support and promote centres of excellence to ease and increase awareness among the
member organizations on who should benefit - Increase the size of the support given to member organizations to correspond to the different
costs of different technologies. - Develop member organizations capacity in research to stimulate research in sustainable
agriculture. - Improve networking with research institutions and Government extension services.

- Make the training on agri-business intensive and more practical.

KDFA membership is group based, allowing farmer groups to join the association through an annual membership fee.

Members play a central role in decision making through elected leadership and annual general assemblies.
Governance and Management
KDFA is governed by a District Executive Board (DEB) made up of nine members elected every four years by the Farmers’ Council, in line with the organisation’s constitution.
The administrative arm is led by the Coordinator, supported by a professional team including agricultural advisors, enterprise development advisors, VSLA officers, community-based trainers, and administrative staff.
General Assembly
KDFA holds a General Assembly once a year involving key stakeholders and farmer representatives.
